hippo hop on hogie

well since you've been asking for reviews i felt that i understand your want of reviews. basically, this song is, pretty simple, straightforward "rap" beat. the horn hit gets a little weak though. maybe next time use something a little heavier are higher-pitched to seperate the bass even better. cool beat!! i gave you a higher score for effort because there were some definite "solid" spots and light little details that that show more work with ambience than layers on layers on layer, etc. good stuff, just work on that diversity !

illumatiks responds:

iight thanks for the review, i ll keep that in mind the next time i do somethin with hits

scratchtastic

Um, i have no idea how you made this or did the scratches. the samples were kinda cool. every now and then there was a good scratch and effect use. but for the most-part it would lose the beat and my interest. keep working at it though, you are getting better i can hear it. keep spinning those wheels 'o steel ;)

Had some really good parts

This song is a toss up for me...there was a great nice intro, sounded very sweet and "happy credits"ish...but i think after a while the same samples over and over again began to wear on me. but man, there is some NICE instruments and sounds in this, i would feel bad not acknowledging that you have some very good talent in this one. Very sweet...i stick with a 5 for this one. keep it up! hope to hear more.

Mystikal84 responds:

Well thank you. I know what you mean about the repetative parts, I've been trying to reduce that as I get better, but still each song can always be revisited later.

good, but has faults

First off, this drum and bass stays true to most everyone's idea of drum and bass. you had tight loops and CRAZY beats that were off the wall.

the only thing i didn't agree with in this song was the over-distortion or overall trashy sounding quality. maybe that was a musical choice, but for the listener it's good to give the ears a break and hear some more variety and rising and falling volumes. basically, just work with silence and breaks.

Other than that, cool bassline, very dark melodies and nice use of the FL fx. keep it up

Ineptitude responds:

the bass was intentionally fat and distorted for that, as you said, typical DnB feel. i'm all about the beats. :) i wasn't really trying to push any boundaries with this one. thanks for the review.

yeah

this has a way cool beat. i really liked how it worked with the strings. but yeah, everything the last reviewer said is stuff i would have said ( the pan of the strings too far off, a little clashing) but yeah good industrial. work it!

fun and catchy

i liked the overall cuteness of this one. especially when the voice doo doo's came in with the xylophone??? anyway, fun track, it looped perfectly!

mostlyharmless2k responds:

Thanks for your comments :)
I think that voice Doo thing was built into the xylophone, but in the lower part of the song, you can't hear it.

whoopty shit if it's the wrong genre

what an interesting sample ;) very solid trance song and it reminds me of that Blade song. keep it up. yah!

Zevobrox responds:

Thx Crud, the song you might be referring to is "Phat Bass", ya i think it sounds like it, i am glad you like my other songs.

yeah! vocoder!

Is that you singing in the vocoder? if so, How did you record the vocoder singing? i really like this song. it was a little empty in terms of a creativity. but you have on your hands on some very cool club music and utilize it very well. next time just spend a little longer on adding different elements and melodies to add more of a flavor. awesome work.

Zevobrox responds:

Thanks for your review, ya thats me singing, I have a vocoder program and i put a price of cloth inbetween the front of my mouth and the mic to prevent excess input, I apprechiate your input, i put this song together, in about 1.5 hours, I didn't know what else my song needed thats why i put it on NG and get people like you, who are Awesome enough to take time and listen and give feedback on what i can add, Thanks for your review it was really helpful and keep a lookout in the future for a remake of this song, i also encourage you to check out my other songs if you are able to. Thanks alot :)

good stuff

yay for arpeggios!! the drum beat was a little too slow. the singing sound was amazing!! the bass could have had a little more cutoff. that other thing that came in mixed well in terms of notes, but i don't think it was necessary or should have fit with the rythim (spelling?) overall all, a very cool slow groove. maybe a little too long for a flash movie, but looped very well. i like most the sounds, but it could still use a little more work. but definitely kepp putting put more stuff. especially with that voice instrument!!

ha! that was cool

i listened to the original you did, and that was alright, but i prefer more techno and then i heard this. haha, awesome, the strings, the arpeggiating filtering thing. ooh and i loved the slowing tempo, no one really utilizes changing the tempo and you worked it very well. nice mix.

Fadeliss responds:

thanks man im glad you liked it, im getting better at remixing and making music and maybe someday ill get famous or something.

I make music that pops and clicks in your eardrums and in your synapses. listen to my beats and you'll breathe with me.
